Moreland leads Red Sox past Yankees (1:01)

Red Sox 9, Yankees 6: If the Red Sox wind up defending their AL East title, the Yankees will look back on this as the night it slipped away. Staked to a 6-3 lead in the seventh inning, New York's bullpen imploded. Boston scored four runs in the seventh, taking the lead on Mitch Moreland's two-run pinch single, and two more in the eighth against embattled Aroldis Chapman. And with Chris Sale scheduled to start Saturday night, the Red Sox's lead in the division is five games.

The rematch between Rafael Devers and Aroldis Chapman goes to ... Devers again. Leadoff single on a 100.4 mph first-pitch fastball in the bottom of the eighth inning with the Red Sox leading 7-6.

Bases loaded for Aaron Judge (again.)

Here's the paradox with Joe Kelly: Entering tonight, he had thrown 444 fastballs that averaged 99.32 mph, but nevertheless got only 47 swing-and-misses, according to Brooks Baseball. Gary Sanchez's game-tying homer came on a 99-mph heater.

Joe Kelly hit triple digits six times in that seven-pitch at-bat against Aaron Judge, including 100 on the grounder to short that got him out and ended the Yankees' bases-loaded threat. Red Sox lead, 3-2, in the middle of the sixth inning.

Back spasms for Drew Pomeranz, according to the Red Sox.

Drew Pomeranz, who has been Red Sox's second-best starting pitcher, is leaving the game with an apparent lower body injury in the top of the fourth inning. Awaiting word on exact nature of the injury. Pomeranz threw two warmup pitches and was unable to continue.

Price's throwing regimen halted by 'stiffness'

David Price won't be returning to Boston's rotation anytime soon after his throwing regimen off flat ground was stopped due to unspecified "stiffness," according to Red Sox manager John Farrell.

ESPN Stats & Information

Judging by the struggles

Yankees RF Aaron Judge got off to a red-hot start to his rookie season, but the Red Sox are one team that has consistently given him trouble. His stats have increasingly declined when facing off against Boston this year.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

John Farrell: Red Sox "haven't abandoned" idea that David Price (elbow) will return this season, but stiffness that lefty felt earlier in the week still exists. Not throwing again today, only treatment. "We're not going to push this," said Farrell, who didn't offer specifics on location or stiffness. No plans yet for Price to see doctor for additional testing.
