No surprises here: Alabama is the favorite to win the 2017 national championship, according to the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook. Ohio State has the second-best odds. Of the three teams tied for third-best chances, only Florida State has appeared in the College Football Playoff.

ACC commissioner John Swofford said he expects the revenue gap between his conference and the Big Ten and SEC to close once the ACC Network launches in 2019. "That's why we're doing the channel," Swofford said. "We fully expect a gap with particularly the Big Ten and SEC here for a couple of years but that's the very reason we've signed to do what we're doing. We fully expect that gap will narrow considerably when we get the channel up and running."

Ten high-stakes games for 2017: FSU at Florida

Florida State defensive back Trey Marshall must sit out the first half of the season opener against Alabama because he was ejected for targeting against Michigan in the fourth quarter in the Capital One Orange Bowl. Coach Jimbo Fisher said ACC coaches are in favor of revising that rule so the punishment doesn't carry over into the following season. "I think that's crazy," Fisher said. "You get those red cards in soccer, they don't follow you from year to year."

Though the majority of ACC football coaches have been in favor of an early signing period, they wanted the date much earlier than December. So there are mixed feelings about the Dec. 20-22 period that was recently approved. "I always wanted it earlier to take a lot of pressure off kids and coaches," Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said from the ACC spring meetings. "You're talking about getting ready for a bowl game and a playoff game and you're practicing all day, you're flying all night getting back at 2 in the morning, getting up at 6 in the morning, and going. You're going to be doing that for 2 1/2 , three weeks. … It's something I don't agree with but it is here to stay at least for another two years until they evaluate the process."
