Outlook for Wisconsin

FPI gives the No. 5 Badgers excellent odds to at least maintain their position following Saturday's matchup at Minnesota, but obtaining a possible ticket into the CFP by beating Ohio State the following weekend won't be as easy for Wisconsin.

A look at the playoff field

The latest CFP rankings were released Tuesday with the Crimson Tide holding firm at No. 1. But how is the rest of the Top 10 looking?

Heather Dinich ESPN Senior Writer

The only change in the CFP top 12 was No. 2 Miami sliding one spot ahead of No. 3 Clemson, which further feeds the narrative that Miami might still stand a chance at the top four if its only loss of the season is in a close game to Clemson in the ACC title game. It would depend in large part if undefeated Wisconsin wins the Big Ten because the Badgers would almost certainly move into the top four then.

Miami moves up to No. 2 in latest CFP rankings

Despite rolling to a victory, Clemson fell to No. 3 in this week's CFP rankings, switching spots with No. 2 Miami. Oklahoma remains at No. 4, while top-ranked Alabama readies for the Iron Bowl against No. 6 Auburn.

Dream and disaster CFP scenarios for Big Ten

Undefeated Wisconsin winning the league and finishing in the top four is the Big Ten's simplest hope. Ohio State losing to Michigan but winning the conference could spell doom.

The top four teams in last week's CFP Selection Committee Rankings remain the four most likely teams to finish with a top-4 Strength of Record.

Though Wisconsin is undefeated, FPI believes there are seven teams with at least one loss that are better than the Badgers going forward. The model currently ranks Miami 12th. Remember, FPI is strictly rating a team's strength, not its resume.

Vote: Who made their playoff case in Week 12?

Week 12 of the college football season didn't have the drama of a week ago, but Wisconsin, Ohio State, Miami and Oklahoma continued to press their case to be in the College Football Playoff.

Seth Walder ESPN Analytics

Not much of a surprise given the lack of major upsets yesterday, but there were no changes in the top nine spots in current Strength of Record. The one change on this list is that Oklahoma State fell off following its loss to Kansas State and was replaced by TCU in the No. 10 spot.

Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst on what he thought when the ball bounced at Nick Nelson's feet before Nelson's 50-yard punt return touchdown: "Pick it up."

Mitch Sherman ESPN Staff Writer

Paul Chryst joined Urban Meyer today after Wisconsin's victory over Michigan as the only coaches since 1996 to win 20 or more of their first 25 Big Ten games. Meyer was 25-0. Chryst is 21-4. Next best records over that time belong to Jim Tressel (19-6), Bo Pelini (18-7) and Joe Tiller (17-8).

Adam Rittenberg ESPN Staff Writer

Wisconsin QB Alex Hornibrook on converting third-and-long situations: "It's pretty fun because you know you're going to get a chance to make a play, and the percentages aren't that good, so no one's expecting you to make the plays. That's when you have to be confident in your teammates and yourself."
