Cal suffered a significant loss on the recruiting trail Tuesday evening as quarterback Adrian Martinez stepped back from his commitment to the Golden Bears. Martinez, the nation's No. 32 overall prospect and No. 3 pocket passer, committed to Cal last November and remained committed through the coaching change from Sonny Dykes to Justin Wilcox. Martinez said he was no longer 100% committed to Cal, though the school remains an option for him. Martinez has had a huge spring in picking up offers and took a recent visit to Tennessee. Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Ole Miss, Oregon and West Virginia are a few other programs that have offered.

Cal's offense was as multiple as promised under new coordinator Beau Baldwin, showing a plethora of different formations in today's spring game. Chase Forrest and Ross Bowers, the leaders in the QB race, both looked sharp.

As usual, the Pac-12 and West region dominate the quarterback discussion. Of the top 11 quarterbacks in the nation, seven have ties to the Pac-12 or West region. Nos. 2 and 7 pocket passers Jacob Sirmon and Colson Yankoff are committed to Washington, No. 3 pocket passer and No. 32 overall prospect Adrian Martinez is committed to Cal, No. 48 overall prospect Tanner McKee resides in Southern California, No. 50 overall prospect and No. 3 dual-threat quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson hails from Nevada and could commit to UCLA over Michigan this weekend and Nos. 64 and 67 overall prospects, Jack West and Matt Corral, are committed to Stanford and USC, respectively.

Pac-12 offensive triplets: No. 10 California

Replacing a solid veteran QB is hard, and while Cal is optimistic with new offensive coordinator Beau Baldwin, there's still some uncertainty.

Former Cal QB Davis Webb has "12-15 more" meetings with NFL teams scheduled. He wouldn't elaborate on details, but when asked by a local Bay Area reporter, he did indicate that San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has been in contact. Webb, whose draft stock has been rising, plans to watch the NFL Draft at his Dallas area home with former teammates from both Cal and Texas Tech. "It'll be an interesting mix," he said.

Former Cal QB Davis Webb says he has 12-15 private workouts scheduled with NFL teams. He just threw in the rain at the Bears' Pro Day. "Those were some shady conditions," Webb said as he discussed the difficulties of throwing in the rain. He said scouts told him they were happy about his performance.

Cal OT grad transfer Aaron Cochran says he's down to three schools: Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Auburn. Cochran visited Stillwater three weeks ago, is visiting Auburn this weekend, and Tech the weekend of April 8. Expects to have a decision soon after that. Cochran started 16 games for Cal.

Seven schools remain in the mix for Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the nation's No. 4 dual-threat quarterback. Thompson-Robinson released his list of seven finalists via twitter, as Cal, Florida State, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina and UCLA remain in the hunt to sign the No. 107 overall prospect and No. 2 uncommitted quarterback at this time. It looks like this could come down to a battle between Michigan and UCLA, as the Bruins established themselves early as the program to beat for Thompson-Robinson and his teammate, ESPN 300 tight end Brevin Jordan, while Thompson-Robinson's mother attended Michigan. Cal was not on his initial top-12 list, while Florida State and Oregon are programs to watch and could make a move.

New Cal DC Tim DeRuyter has switched the Bears' defense to a 3-4 scheme, opening a major learning period for players like Cameron Saffle, who has moved from DE to LB. "The coaches say, 'the first time you make a mistake -- that's on us, we'll teach you. But if you mess up again, that's on you.' That's the expectation now."

David Lombardi ESPN Staff Writer

CB Darius Allensworth also discussed Cal's coaching change: "Everything that Coach Wilcox does is at a championship level... It's a different type of urgency now. They expect more." LB Cameron Saffle says that Wilcox's defensive background has helped the unit: "Having a defensive-oriented staff, we're getting a lot more love."
